Training

MCRL runs training courses for scientists and technologists. An international training workshop for technologists, technicians and scientists on equipment management facilitated by the International Foundation for Science (IFS) and supported by MacArthur Foundation that covered issues dealing with sustainability of research laboratories, and the principles, instrumentation and applications  of advanced modern analytical techniques for  research at the cutting edge including Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectrometry, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Rapid Viscometric Analysis and Automated Nitrogen/Protein Analysis was held at MCRL from 26-30 September, 2011. Some 118 participants from several Nigerian universities and other institutions including the University of Antananarivo and Malagasy Research Institute, Madagascar attended the workshop, with scientists and equipment maintenance specialists from Nigeria, Sweden and South Africa as trainers.

A similar course for Nigerian technologist, technicians and scientists was held from 18-22 February, 2013.

The MCRL organised another workshop on Application of Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS) for technologists and scientists from 10-14 November 2014.

In 2016, the MCRL successfully organized two Scientific Training Workshops for Postgraduate Students of the University of Ibadan on Spectroscopic and Chromatographic techniques. The workshops were jointly sponsored by the University Administration, the then Postgraduate School and the MCRL.

Several in-house courses within the MCRL have been made open to members of the University Community; e.g. training courses on laboratory safety, equipment maintenance, etc.
